OCI Renewal rules

Few Facts And Info On The Oci Cards And Its Renewal

  • You must renew your physical OCI Card after you turn 20, if the OCI was issued while you were below 20 (Only once the passport is renewed after crossing age 20) Online update of passport and photo required every time applicant gets a new passport till, they turn 20.

 

  • Update your new Passport and Photograph online after you turn 50 if your OCI was issued before you turned 50 (There is no physical renewal required in this case, but ONLINE update is required within 90 days of the new passport issuance or ur next India trip whichever is earlier).

 

  • There is no action required if your OCI was issued after the age of 50, even if you renew your Passport.

 

  • All old PIO Cards must be replaced with OCI Cards.

 

  • Minor OCI Card holders do not require to renew their OCI Cards every time the passport is renewed. ONLY ONLINE UPDATE OF PASSPORT IS REQUIRED EVERYTIME THE PASSPORT IS RENEWED TILL AGE 20

 

  • You don’t have to carry your OLD US Passport (one with OCI Stamp) along with new US passport and OCI Card (Just New Passport and OCI Card is fine).

 

  • OCI Card is a lifelong VISA to India with no limitations on number of visits or number of days stay in India.

 

  • OCI Card holders are not dual citizens, it’s just a type of VISA with special benefits as compared to regular Tourist Visa.

 

  • OCI Card holders are not NRI’s they are people of Indian origin settled abroad.

 

  • NRI is the term used for Non-Residential Indians (Indian passport holders), living abroad for work or any other reason.

 

  • Keep your Indian origin documents safe (Like Indian Passport, School Certificates, Birth Certificate, Domicile Certificate etc), as you never know which one you may need with ever changing Indian immigration rules.
